This floral cotton tank top is my first experiment in painting ready-made clothing.

Ready-made clothing poses special challenges: how to stretch it on the frame so that you are only painting one layer, for instance. And unlike when I make clothing myself, I don't have fabric scraps to run tests on.

I tested colors and did a bit of a warm up on some scrap material, but the level of bleed was much higher on the cotton-knit tank top.

My next experiment with ready-made clothing will involve the same style of tank top, but this time I will use resists for the pattern to test how well the cotton knit takes resist, and if it's any more time consuming than the same method on other fabrics.

If I can improve on some techniques for painting ready-made items, it means I will be able to offer some lower-price but still hand-painted and one of a kind pieces.
